Advisory Board

End of Year Letter

Dear Advisory Board Members and Partners,

I hope you and your loved ones are well.

As we move into the summer weeks, I wanted to take a few minutes to thank all of you for your support throughout this very challenging year. What we hoped would be a typical and successful year turned into an unexpected journey. Our entire system was turned upside down. However, thanks to the support of many of you, our school community pulled through.

Below are some of our preliminary accomplishments:

  • 100% of our students connected to teachers virtually during distance learning
  • Virtual Mock Interviews and CGI STEM Camp were successfully held with 10th and 11th graders
  • Senior Portfolios and Defenses were held virtually
  • The Class of 2020 reached a graduation rate of approximately 98%
  • Completed Linked Learning Alliance virtual review and earned GOLD Certification

We hope to continue to develop our partnership with you in the coming school year to provide our students with authentic learning experiences to ensure they are College and Career Ready.

On behalf of our entire faculty and staff, I thank you.

Adriana Trejo

Principal

What is an Advisory Board?

The Boyle Heights STEM Magnet High School Advisory Board is composed of industry professionals, community group leaders, non-profit organizations, and university partners.  All members are passionate about STEM education in Boyle Heights.  They provide our school with the guidance necessary to ensure our school goals are aligned with industry standards and real-world skills. Through collaboration, they assist in creating real-life experiences and networking opportunities for our students.

How Can I Provide Support?

Advisory Board members provide support for our school and students by providing the following services:

  • Serve as Board members (3 meetings a year)
  • As guest speakers or presentations
  • Provide feedback on previous or upcoming interdisciplinary projects (PBLs)
  • Serve on a panel of judges for presentations of student projects.
  • Host workshops, both industry-specific or of special interest
  • Serve as hosts for internships
  • Participate as interviewers for Mock Interviews
  • Donations in the form of monies, supplies, and/or technology

The Advisory Board community also provides an enriching exchange of ideas that will encourage and support our student’s college and career readiness.
